What Happens During a SEMA Racking Inspection? A Step-by-Step Guide

Rackstor UK Ltd

Before the Inspector Arrives

Our team will confirm the appointment, the number of bays to be inspected, and any access requirements in advance. You do not need to empty the racking — our inspectors work around live operations wherever possible.

Site Briefing and Bay-by-Bay Inspection

On arrival, the inspector will confirm their SARI accreditation credentials and conduct a brief site induction. They will ask about any known damage, recent forklift impacts, and the age and manufacturer of the racking system.

The inspector then works systematically through every bay checking uprights, beams, bracing, baseplates, floor fixings, load notices and aisle widths.

Risk Classification

Every fault found is classified using the SEMA traffic light system. Green means within acceptable tolerances. Amber means the component must be repaired within four weeks. Red means the bay must be unloaded and taken out of service immediately.

If any red-rated items are found, the inspector will notify you on the spot before leaving site.

The Report

Within 48 hours of the inspection you receive a detailed PDF report containing every fault found, its location by bay reference, its risk classification, a photograph and a recommended action.

The report is your legal evidence of compliance with HSG76, EN 15635 and PUWER 1998.
