SEMA, SARI and EN 15635 — The Standards That Matter
SEMA — the Storage Equipment Manufacturers' Association — is the UK trade body that sets the technical standards for storage equipment. Its SARI scheme certifies the racking inspectors HSE expects you to use.
What is a SARI?
A SEMA Approved Racking Inspector (SARI) has passed the SEMA training course and an external assessment, holds professional indemnity cover and undergoes ongoing CPD and re-assessment.
When HSE refers to a ‘competent person’ in HSG76, the SARI scheme is the recognised UK benchmark.
BS EN 15635:2008 in one paragraph
EN 15635 ‘Steel static storage systems — Application and maintenance of storage equipment’ is the European standard governing how racking is used and looked after once installed. It defines the inspection regime, the green/amber/red damage limits, and the duties of the operator. UK SEMA inspections are carried out to this standard.
