Mr G. Thelwell — SARI Accredited Racking Inspector (SARI No. 0100)

Mr Thelwell is the SARI accredited inspector behind every Rackstor UK Ltd racking inspection report. His personal SARI number — 0100 — appears on the reports and can be verified independently with SEMA.

A short introduction

Mr Thelwell has spent close to 40 years around storage equipment — long enough to have seen what happens when racking is well looked after, and what happens when it isn't. His approach is practical rather than theoretical: walk the aisles, look at how the racking is actually being used day to day, and explain plainly what needs fixing, what needs watching, and what is genuinely fine.

Alongside inspecting, he trains. As a CIEH Professional Trainer he has spent years teaching warehouse teams how to spot damage themselves between formal inspections, how to record it, and how to escalate it. That training background shows up in his reports: they are written to be understood and acted on by the people on site, not just filed.

Approach

Mr Thelwell's work is grounded in practical, common-sense warehouse and storage safety — ensuring racking systems are safe, compliant and efficient, not just ticking boxes. He works with organisations of every size, from small startups to large distribution centres, tailoring the depth of each inspection to the site in front of him.

His real specialisms shape how every inspection is carried out:

  • Detailed storage equipment inspections — uprights, beams, bracing, floor fixings and load notices
  • Racking repair training for warehouse teams, so damage is spotted and recorded between formal inspections
  • Root cause analysis — understanding why damage keeps recurring, not just where it appears
  • Behaviour-based safety — addressing how racking is actually used and loaded day to day
  • Statutory inspection training — IOSH-approved CIEH statutory storage equipment inspection and maintenance

Experience

Nearly four decades in the storage equipment industry, including more than 16 years (2009–2025) working as a SARI Safety Consultant. In that role he carried out SEMA SARI storage equipment safety inspections, delivered IOSH-approved CIEH statutory storage equipment inspection and maintenance training, and undertook accident and incident investigation work.

His formal education began with Civil Surveying at Barnsley College, followed by further study at the University of Sheffield — a structural grounding that carries directly into assessing damaged uprights, beams, bracing and floor fixings.

Specialisms:

  • On-site safety inspections for storage equipment — from small startups to large distribution centres
  • Racking inspection and repair training for warehouse staff
  • Root cause analysis
  • Behaviour-based safety
  • Statutory inspection training

Why this matters for your report

Under PUWER 1998 and HSG76, an expert racking inspection has to be carried out by a technically competent person — and competence has to be demonstrable, not asserted. When Rackstor UK Ltd issues an inspection report, the person behind it is named, holds a verifiable SARI accreditation, a NEBOSH Diploma and Tech IOSH membership, and has spent nearly 40 years doing this work. That is what makes a report stand up in front of an HSE inspector, an insurer or an internal auditor — and it is why red, amber and green classifications in Rackstor's reports can be relied on when you plan repairs.
