After-Impact Racking Inspections — What to Do

An after-impact inspection is required any time racking is struck — even if the damage looks superficial. It is one of the most-overlooked duties in UK warehousing and a frequent cause of HSE enforcement.

The 5-step post-impact procedure

1. Stop loading and offload the affected bay immediately.

2. Cordon off the bay and adjacent bays — minimum one bay either side.

3. PRRS inspects, documents and photographs the damage.

4. If damage exceeds EN 15635 tolerances, escalate to a SARI inspection before any re-load.

5. Replace damaged components with manufacturer-compliant parts and record the repair in the inspection log.
