What the Inspection Covers

Every inspection covers upright frames, beams and safety clips, baseplates and floor fixings, bracing and connections, and load notices. Our SARI accredited inspectors examine every element of your racking system for damage, deformation, corrosion and missing components.

Every defect is classified red, amber or green using the SEMA traffic light system, with photographs included in the written report delivered within 48 hours of the inspection.

  • Upright frames — checked for bends, buckles, splits and corrosion
  • Beams and safety clips — verified for correct engagement and damage
  • Baseplates and floor fixings — inspected for lift, cracks and looseness
  • Bracing and connections — assessed for damage and missing fixings
  • Load notices — checked for presence, legibility and accuracy

Legal Requirements

Pallet racking is work equipment under PUWER 1998. HSE guidance HSG76 requires expert inspection at least once every 12 months by a SARI accredited inspector.

SEMA guidelines specify that a technically competent person — meaning a SARI accredited inspector — must carry out a formal expert inspection at least once every 12 months. Failure to comply increases legal liability significantly.

In the event of a racking collapse, the absence of a current inspection record significantly increases the employer's legal liability. Documented inspections by a SARI accredited inspector demonstrate compliance and provide essential protection.
