Racking Inspection Cost UK — Fixed Price Quotes from a SARI Accredited Inspector

The cost of a SEMA-aligned pallet racking inspection in the UK is calculated on a fixed-price basis for each site, rather than charged by the hour. Pricing is based on four main variables: the number of racking bays on site, the types of racking installed, the site location relative to our Somerset base, and whether out-of-hours access is required. Rackstor UK Ltd provides written fixed-price quotations — typically the same day — with no hidden extras, no travel surcharges within our standard service area, and no charge for the written report, photographic record, or PUWER compliance certificate that accompanies every inspection.

For a typical single-site warehouse with standard adjustable pallet racking, most customers receive a quotation within two to four hours of calling 0800 654 6955 or submitting a bay count and postcode via our enquiry form. Multi-site operators receive bundled pricing across all locations with a single annual inspection schedule and consistent reporting format site to site.

What Determines the Cost of a Racking Inspection?

The number of racking bays is the single largest cost driver. A small trade counter with 30 bays is priced differently from a regional distribution centre with 400 bays and high-bay storage requiring a MEWP or scissor lift to reach the upper beam levels. The racking type also matters — adjustable pallet racking, drive-in racking, push-back racking, cantilever racking, narrow aisle systems and mezzanine racking each require different inspection time allowances, and sites with a mix of types are quoted accordingly.

Site location affects the travel element of the price. Our SARI accredited inspector operates from Somerset, covering the South West, South Wales, the Midlands and London as standard service areas. Sites further afield — Scotland, Northern Ireland, East Anglia — can be accommodated and are quoted individually. Out-of-hours inspections, including evenings and weekends for sites that cannot take the racking out of service during working hours, are available and quoted at the time of enquiry rather than added as a surcharge later.

What Is Included in a Racking Inspection Quote?

Every fixed-price quotation from Rackstor UK Ltd includes the same scope of work regardless of site size. The inspection covers every upright, beam, baseplate, bracing member, horizontal brace, load notice and aisle marking across the entire racking installation. Defects are measured against the precise numerical tolerances set out in BS EN 15635 and classified as red, amber or green in accordance with the SEMA Code of Practice. Red defects — those representing a risk of collapse — are reported immediately by telephone before the inspector leaves site, so you can take action the same day.

The written report is delivered within 48 hours of the inspection and includes photographic evidence of every defect recorded, the exact location of each defect within the racking layout, the SEMA red / amber / green classification, a prioritised repair schedule, and recommendations for your weekly PRRS visual check programme. The report is signed by the named inspector — Mr G. Thelwell, SARI No. 0100 — so the competent person requirement of PUWER 1998 Regulation 6 is documented and independently verifiable. A PUWER compliance certificate is included at no additional charge.

Multi-Site and National Inspection Contracts

Operators running multiple warehouse sites across the UK benefit from a bundled multi-site approach. Rackstor UK Ltd manages the full annual inspection schedule across all sites, issuing a single point-of-contact, consistent reporting format, and advance notice when any site is approaching its 12-month PUWER / HSG76 window. Multi-site customers include national third-party logistics operators, NHS Trust facilities teams, local authority depot networks, and national retail chains with regional distribution hubs. Bundled pricing is negotiated individually based on total bay count and geography — call 0800 654 6955 to discuss.

How to Get a Fixed-Price Quote

To receive a same-day fixed-price quotation, we need three pieces of information: your site postcode, an approximate bay count (the number of upright frame pairs across the installation), and the racking type or types present. If you are unsure of the bay count, a rough floor area and racking height is sufficient for us to estimate. Call 0800 654 6955, use the enquiry form on this page, or email info@rackstor.co.uk. We aim to return a written quotation within four hours during working hours.
