How Much Does a Pallet Racking Inspection Cost in the UK?

What Factors Affect the Cost of a Racking Inspection?

The cost of a pallet racking inspection in the UK is primarily determined by four factors: size of the installation, location, type of racking, and urgency.

The number of bays, aisles and total linear metres of racking is the biggest pricing variable. A small warehouse with 20 bays will cost significantly less to inspect than a large distribution centre with 500 bays.

Inspector travel time and distance from the nearest base affects cost. Rackstor UK Ltd operates nationwide with inspectors across England, Scotland and Wales, which keeps travel costs low across most postcodes.

Standard adjustable pallet racking is straightforward to inspect. Cantilever racking, drive-in racking and automated storage systems require more specialist inspection time and may cost more.

What Does a SEMA Approved Racking Inspection Include?

A proper SEMA approved inspection carried out by a SARI accredited inspector includes a full visual inspection of every upright, beam, brace, baseplate and floor fixing.

Every fault is classified red, amber or green. You receive photographic evidence of all damage and a detailed PDF report within 48 hours of the inspection, with prioritised repair recommendations.

The report complies with HSG76, BS EN 15635:2008 and PUWER 1998. It does not include repairs — those are quoted separately, giving you full control over costs.

Why You Should Never Choose on Price Alone

A cheap racking inspection that does not meet SEMA standards is worse than useless. If the HSE investigates an incident and your inspection report was carried out by an unqualified person, you have no legal defence.

The inspection must be carried out by a competent person — in practice, a SEMA Approved Racking Inspector (SARI). Always check that your inspector is SARI accredited before booking.
